Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 Kia Soul retains its eye-catching boxy styling while improving the look with a few new exterior features. It comes in six trim levels, which are LX, S, GT-Line, X-Line, EX, and Turbo. Exterior features on the base LX model include black exterior accents, power side mirrors, automatic multi-reflector headlights, and 16-inch steel wheels. The S adds a set of 16-inch alloy wheels. With the GT-Line, you get unique glossy-black and sporty exterior accents, a power sunroof, fog lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The X-Line adds its own exclusive 18-inch wheels, silver side mirrors, an exclusive body kit, and a set of roof rails. The EX is a bit more luxurious, featuring 17-inch alloy wheels and heated side mirrors. At the top of the list, the Turbo trim features LED headlights and fog lights.
Engine (Power)
Most of the trim levels of the 2021 Soul come equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 132 pound-feet of torque and 147 horsepower. It pairs with a continuously variable transmission that sends power to the front wheels. The LX and Turbo trims come with a more powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, rated at 195 pound-feet of torque and 201 horsepower. On the LX trim, the engine pairs with a six-speed manual, although the CVT is an option. The Turbo includes a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Performance
The 2021 Soul is a peppy little SUV, boasting impressive acceleration and handling. The turbocharged engine is faster, although the base engine offers slightly better fuel efficiency. In most driving situations, the continuously variable transmission feels like an automatic, shifting quickly and efficiently to maintain a comfortable feel.
Interior
Climb into the cabin of the base model and you'll find a six-speaker sound system with a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, a USB input, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cloth upholstery, manual climate control, and soft-touch interior materials. With the S model, you get a power driver's seat and selectable driving modes, while the GT-Line boasts premium cloth upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
Stepping up to the X-Line brings ambient interior lighting and remote keyless entry. With the EX, your Soul will include dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear center armrest, a wireless charging pad, a cargo area cover, and heated front seats. The Turbo trim tacks on simulated leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.
Safety Features
All 2021 Kia Soul models come equipped with air bags throughout the cabin, anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera, and stability and traction control. All models but the base trim also include advanced safety features, such as forward collision mitigation, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and drowsy driver monitoring. You can further upgrade the Soul to include adaptive cruise control and a head-up display.
