Kia Digital Key 2.0 Technology in Western PA

Digital Key 2.0 is Kia’s most advanced access technology available for drivers in Western PA. Unlike the older "Touch" version, it uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) to provide a completely hands-free experience that mimics a traditional smart key fob, allowing you to access and start your vehicle using only your smartphone or Apple Watch.

Digital Key 2.0 vs. Digital Key 2.0 Touch

Digital Key 2.0 vs. Digital Key 2.0 Touch

To understand why Digital Key 2.0 is a premium creature comfort, you have to see the difference in how it interacts with your device:

  • Digital Key 2.0 (UWB): This proximity-based technology allows you to leave your phone in your pocket or purse. The car senses your approach, unfolds the mirrors, and unlocks the doors automatically.
  • Digital Key 2.0 Touch (NFC): This contact-based technology requires you to physically tap your phone against the driver’s door handle to unlock the vehicle and place it on the wireless charging pad to start the engine.

Features and Capabilities

Digital Key 2.0 transforms your compatible device into a fully functional vehicle key with several integrated benefits:

Kia Features and Capabilities
Passive Entry and Start:

The vehicle detects your compatible smartphone or Apple Watch as you approach. Once inside, you can start the car immediately without placing the phone in a specific spot.

Power Reserve Mode:

On many compatible devices, the Digital Key will still work for several hours even if your phone battery dies, ensuring you are not stranded in Western PA.

Customizable Access Levels:

When sharing, you can choose between Full Access (unlock, lock, and drive) or Limited Access (unlock and lock only).

Remote Key Sharing:

You can text a digital key to up to three friends or family members via Apple, Samsung, or Google Wallets.

Security and Safety

Digital Key 2.0 offers enhanced security protocols that go beyond traditional key fobs:

  • Anti-Relay Attack: Because UWB measures the actual distance between the phone and the car by timing radio waves, it is nearly impossible for signals to be intercepted or "spoofed."
  • Biometric Guard: Most devices require FaceID, TouchID, or a passcode to authorize the initial connection or to share a key with another user.
  • Instant Revocation: If you lose your phone, you can log into the Kia Owner’s Portal or your device's cloud service to instantly delete the digital key from the vehicle.
