2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade

Park these two in the same lot and you will struggle to tell which is longer. Same 116.9-inch wheelbase. Same 199.2-inch length. Same 7.4-inch minimum ground clearance.

Their entry trims started $245 apart at launch. Size is not what separates these two.

Four other things do. Cargo with all three rows in use: the Telluride holds 22.3 cubic feet behind the third row against the Palisade's 19.1. Engine character: the Telluride runs a torque-heavy turbocharged 4-cylinder, the Palisade a V6 with more horsepower. The crash record: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, rates the Palisade 5 stars overall and has not tested the 2027 Telluride. And warranty length, where the two brands match on the basic and powertrain warranties and differ on corrosion and roadside assistance.

Kia did not build a 2026 Telluride, so the current Telluride is a 2027 while the current Palisade is a 2026. We cover that skipped year in why there is no 2026 Kia Telluride. Almost everyone shopping a three-row SUV ends up with both names on the list, so it is the current version of each that matters below.

What that table shows is sameness. Same footprint, same price bracket, same towing rating. What separates them is what each one does with that footprint.

Where the Telluride Wins

Where the 2027 Kia Telluride beats the 2026 Hyundai Palisade
What 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Cargo behind the third row 22.3 cu ft 19.1 cu ft
Cargo behind the second row 48.7 cu ft 46.3 cu ft
Cargo behind the first row 89.3 cu ft 86.7 cu ft
Torque 311 lb-ft 260 lb-ft
Entry price $39,190 $39,435

MSRP at launch.

The cargo gap is what changes a trip. With every seat occupied, the Telluride carries 3.2 cu ft more than the Palisade, about 17 percent more room exactly when a family has the least of it.

Think about the trip where that lands. Three rows full for a tournament weekend or a run to the airport. Everything the family is bringing has to fit behind the last row, because there is nowhere else for it to go. That is where 22.3 cubic feet against 19.1 stops being a spec.

It is the last bag sliding in behind the seats instead of riding on somebody's knees for two hours. Or a folded stroller standing where it belongs rather than wedged between a child's seat and a door.

Fold the third row and the Telluride still leads, 48.7 against 46.3. But the gap that decides a purchase is the one you meet with every seat full.

Two more points belong here. Telluride cargo volume is identical on every trim, so a buyer moving up the range for leather, a bigger stereo or a sunroof gives up none of it. And every feature in Drive Wise, Kia's driver-assistance suite, is standard equipment on the trims that carry it. There is no box to tick and no package to hunt for on a window sticker.

Where the Palisade Wins

Where the 2026 Hyundai Palisade beats the 2027 Kia Telluride

Published crash rating: NHTSA rates the 2026 Palisade 5 stars overall. Underneath that overall score sit 4 stars frontal, 5 side and 4 rollover, on the V6 Palisade in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive form. The 2027 Telluride has not been tested. If, as of the time of writing, a rating already on the books is part of how you decide, that point goes to Hyundai.

What 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Horsepower 274 hp 287 hp
Corrosion coverage 5 years / 100,000 miles 7 years / unlimited miles
Roadside assistance 5 years / 60,000 miles 5 years / unlimited miles

Corrosion and roadside coverage are brand-wide programs from Kia and Hyundai.

The corrosion term carries weight in Western Pennsylvania. Say you keep a vehicle until the loan is a distant memory. Seven years with no mileage cap against five years and 100,000 miles is a real difference. It lands in exactly the years when road salt has had time to do its work.

Standard trailering hardware: every Palisade arrives with trailer prewiring, heavy-duty engine and transmission coolers and trailer sway control, the system that steadies a trailer starting to weave, plus Tow Mode and 7-pin trailer wiring. For a household that tows regularly rather than twice a summer, that is the sturdier starting point.

Ten airbags: the Palisade carries ten as standard equipment, on every trim in the line.

Price and Trims

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade price and trim comparison

The two lines start within a few hundred dollars of each other, and their top trims land just as close.

Model Entry trim MSRP at launch Trims with this engine Top of the line
2027 Kia Telluride LX, front-wheel drive $39,190 10 $56,790 (X-Pro SX Prestige)
2026 Hyundai Palisade SE, front-wheel drive $39,435 7 $56,560 (Calligraphy)

MSRP at launch for the 2027 Telluride and the 2026 Palisade.

$245 is the whole gap at the bottom, with the Telluride the cheaper of the two. At the top it reverses: $230, with the Palisade the cheaper one. Neither gap is large enough to settle a purchase this size on its own.

What matters more is how alike the two entry trims are:

Entry trim Telluride LX Palisade SE
Drive Front-wheel drive Front-wheel drive
Seating 8 passengers 8 passengers
Seating surfaces Cloth Cloth
Wheels 18-inch alloy 18-inch alloy
Driver's seat 6-way manual 6-way manual
Driver display 4.2 in 4.2 in
Touchscreen with navigation 12.3 in 12.3 in

Two vehicles from different brands rarely line up that closely, and it changes what the entry-trim shopper is choosing between. You are not weighing one brand's cheap seat against another's nice one. Every row above matches, so the decision moves to cargo, engine, crash record, warranty and the points where the two brands tier their features differently. Individual window stickers are listed on the Telluride inventory page.

Engines and Power

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade engine and power comparison

This is where the two part ways.

Spec 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Engine 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder 3.5L V6
Horsepower 274 287
Torque 311 lb-ft 260 lb-ft
Transmission 8-speed automatic 8-speed automatic
Across the range The same engine on all 10 trims The same V6 on all 7 trims
Fuel tank 19.0 gal 19.0 gal

Neither badge wins this one outright. It comes down to two numbers that get treated as one. Horsepower and torque are not the same thing.

Torque is the shove. It moves a heavy vehicle away from a stop sign, and carries it up a grade without the transmission hunting for a lower gear. You feel it most when the vehicle is full. Horsepower keeps that effort going as speed climbs, so it shows up merging onto a highway and holding a pace once you are there.

The Kia has 51 lb-ft more torque. The Hyundai has 13 more horsepower. Empty, on flat ground, neither difference announces itself.

Load seven or eight people and their bags. Point it up one of the longer climbs out of a Butler County valley on the way home, and 311 lb-ft against 260 is the number doing the work. A buyer who mostly drives one or two people to Cranberry Township and back will notice neither figure. A buyer who fills the vehicle every weekend will feel the torque.

On both, the engine in the cheapest trim is the engine in the most expensive one.

Fuel Economy

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade fuel economy comparison
Configuration City Highway Combined
Hyundai Palisade, front-wheel drive 19 25 21
Hyundai Palisade, all-wheel drive 18 24 20
Kia Telluride, front-wheel drive 20 26 22
Kia Telluride, all-wheel drive 18 24 20
Kia Telluride X-Pro 17 22 19

Palisade figures are EPA ratings. Telluride figures are as Kia states them.

Fuel economy does not decide this one:

  • With all-wheel drive: the two are identical, 18 city, 24 highway and 20 combined.
  • With front-wheel drive: 1 mpg apart in every column, which over a year of ordinary driving is a rounding error next to how you drive and what you carry.
  • The one real step down: the Telluride X-Pro sits 3 combined mpg below the front-wheel-drive Telluride, in exchange for all-terrain tires and 9.1 inches of ground clearance. That is a deliberate trade, and it applies only to the two X-Pro trims, X-Pro SX and X-Pro SX Prestige.

Space, Cargo and Seating

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade space, cargo and seating comparison

The outside measurements are nearly the same. The inside is where they differ.

Dimension 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Wheelbase 116.9 in 116.9 in
Length 199.2 in 199.2 in
Width 78.3 in 78.0 in
Height, entry trim 69.5 in (LX) 69.5 in (SE)
Minimum ground clearance 7.4 in 7.4 in
Ground clearance, off-road trims 9.1 in (X-Pro) 8.4 in (XRT PRO)
Cargo behind the third row 22.3 cu ft 19.1 cu ft
Cargo behind the second row 48.7 cu ft 46.3 cu ft
Cargo behind the first row 89.3 cu ft 86.7 cu ft

Outside, these are the same vehicle to within a third of an inch of width. Both fit the same garage and take up the same amount of a parking space at the Cranberry Township shopping centers.

Inside, the Telluride holds more cargo behind every row. If your last row is usually occupied, the figure to look at is the one measured behind that row: 22.3 cu ft in the Telluride, 19.1 in the Palisade. The folded-flat numbers are closer together, and they describe the day you move furniture rather than the drive you make every week.

Seating splits by trim rather than by badge. Check it before you settle on a trim:

Seating 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Rows Three on every trim Three on every trim
8 passengers LX and EX SE as standard, and an option on SEL and SEL Premium
7 passengers The other eight trims, where second-row captain's chairs take over Every trim above SEL Premium, and SEL or SEL Premium without the bench

On both, the eight-passenger bench sits at the lower end of the range, and climbing the trims eventually swaps it for captain's chairs. If you need eight seats, that narrows the shopping list on either side before anything else does.

Towing

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade towing comparison

Both are rated to tow 5,000 lb, so the headline number is a tie. What differs is the equipment around it.

Spec 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Maximum towing 5,000 lb 5,000 lb
Adding a hitch to the entry trim Towing Package, $625 Tow Hitch accessory, $765
Hitch fitted at the factory on X-Pro SX, X-Pro SX Prestige XRT PRO, Limited, Calligraphy

MSRP at launch.

Hardware: the Palisade includes its trailering package as standard, so the prewiring, the heavy-duty coolers and the sway control are already fitted. That is a real advantage for a regular towing household, and it is Hyundai's to claim.

The hitch: neither entry trim includes one, and both brands sell one to add. On both, the trims that arrive with a hitch already fitted are upper trims. If towing matters to you at all, decide that before you pick a trim rather than after.

Technology and Driver Assistance

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade technology and driver assistance comparison

Most of this section is a tie. The exceptions are worth knowing about.

Feature 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Touchscreen with navigation 12.3 in, standard on all 10 trims 12.3 in, standard on all trims
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Standard Standard
Driver display, entry trim 4.2 in 4.2 in
USB-C ports 7 7
Wireless phone charging Dual charger, standard on all 10 trims Standard from the SEL up
Premium audio Meridian, 14 speakers, SX and above Bose, 14 speakers, XRT PRO and above
Head-up display 12 in, the three Prestige trims 12 in, Calligraphy

The screens are a flat tie, and a rare one. Both put a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation in their cheapest trim, so the entry-level buyer is not looking at a smaller screen with navigation held back for a higher trim. Seven USB-C ports in each vehicle mean the third row is not the row arguing about a dead phone.

Hyundai's equivalent suite is called SmartSense. The entry trim of each carries the same core set:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection
  • Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Following Assist 2
  • Blind-Spot Collision Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Safe Exit Assist and Driver Attention Warning

Highway driving is where they tier differently, which matters if a long commute down the I-79 corridor is part of the week:

Highway assistance 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Entry trim Highway Driving Assist 1.5 Highway Driving Assist I
Upper trims Highway Driving Assist 2.0 on SX and above Highway Driving Assist II on Calligraphy

Each brand numbers its own versions, so read that as a range question rather than a feature question: what matters is how far down the range the later version reaches. On the Telluride it arrives in the middle of the range and covers every trim above. On the Palisade it sits at the very top of the line.

Safety

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade crash-safety rating comparison
NHTSA rating 2027 Kia Telluride 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Overall Not tested 5 stars
Frontal Not tested 4 stars
Side Not tested 5 stars
Rollover Not tested 4 stars
Where to check the current score NHTSA.gov NHTSA.gov

NHTSA gives the 2026 Palisade 5 stars overall. Underneath that overall score sit 4 stars in the frontal test, 5 in the side test and 4 for rollover. The rating covers the V6 Palisade in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive form. NHTSA has not tested the 2027 Telluride. As of the time of this writing, no rating on file is not the same thing as a low one.

Ratings change as new tests are published, so check NHTSA.gov for the latest on either vehicle.

Warranty

2027 Kia Telluride vs 2026 Hyundai Palisade warranty coverage comparison
Coverage Kia Hyundai
New-vehicle basic 5 years / 60,000 miles 5 years / 60,000 miles
Powertrain 10 years / 100,000 miles 10 years / 100,000 miles
Corrosion 5 years / 100,000 miles 7 years / unlimited miles
Roadside assistance 5 years / 60,000 miles 5 years / unlimited miles

Kia and Hyundai brand warranty programs.

The two coverages most buyers ask about are identical: 5 years and 60,000 miles bumper to bumper, 10 years and 100,000 miles on the powertrain. Corrosion and roadside assistance are where they diverge, and Hyundai holds both.

Kia's powertrain coverage carries one advantage no term length shows. When a Kia is resold through Kia Certified Pre-Owned, Kia's certified used-vehicle program, that 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage carries to the next owner.

Which One Should You Buy

Choosing between the 2027 Kia Telluride and the 2026 Hyundai Palisade

Most of this decision comes down to which of a handful of situations is yours:

Your situation The better fit Why
The third row is occupied most weekends and the gear still has to fit behind it Telluride 22.3 cu ft against 19.1
You are buying an upper trim and still want the full cargo figure Telluride Telluride cargo is the same on every trim
You run the vehicle full, often, on hilly roads Telluride 311 lb-ft against 260
You want the driver aids to come with the trim, with nothing left to add on Telluride Every Drive Wise feature is standard on the trims that carry it
A published crash rating is a requirement rather than a preference Palisade 5 stars overall from NHTSA
There is a trailer behind you most weekends Palisade Trailering hardware fitted at the factory
You keep vehicles a decade in a place that salts its roads Palisade 7 years of corrosion coverage, no mileage cap
You want a naturally aspirated V6 rather than a turbocharged four Palisade 287 hp 3.5L V6

Choose the 2027 Kia Telluride if:

  • You fill every seat regularly and still need room behind the last one: 22.3 cu ft against 19.1.
  • You want the pulling power. 311 lb-ft against 260 is what a loaded three-row feels like climbing out of a valley.
  • You are otherwise torn and want the lower entry price to break the tie, $39,190 against $39,435 at launch.
  • You want the same cargo figure whichever trim you buy.
  • You want the driver aids to come with the trim rather than off a build sheet.

Choose the 2026 Hyundai Palisade if:

  • You will not buy without a crash rating already in hand, and 5 stars overall settles it.
  • You would rather have a naturally aspirated V6 and its 287 hp.
  • You tow often and want the trailering hardware factory-fitted.
  • You keep vehicles a long time and value 7 years of corrosion coverage with no mileage limit.

Usually two or three of those rows are yours at once, and they tend to point the same way. When they point in different directions, the cargo figure is the one people regret ignoring. Trims and accessories change plenty about either vehicle. The space behind the third row is not one of them.

Driving Both in Western PA

Driving the 2027 Kia Telluride and 2026 Hyundai Palisade on Western PA roads

We have sold Kia in Butler County since 2005. We sit on Route 8 in Butler, with Cranberry Township and the I-79 corridor a straight run south of us, and we sell across Western Pennsylvania. We also offer Kelly Confidence, our owner benefits package, which includes discounted PA state inspections, lifetime car washes with a service visit and lifetime multi-point inspections among other benefits.

Twenty minutes behind the wheel of each settles more than any set of numbers. Bring the child seats you actually use and fit them where they will live. Sit in the third row yourself instead of looking at it. Then load whatever you normally haul behind that row, because the 3.2 cu ft between these two sits right there. Schedule a test drive and drive the Telluride the way you plan to use it.

We are a Kia store, so a new Palisade is not ours to sell. Drive that one at a Hyundai dealership and judge them back to back, ideally on the same day and the same roads. Our Kia specials change monthly, so see the current new vehicle specials for the latest deals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a 2026 Kia Telluride?

No. Kia did not build one. The model went from the 2025 straight to the 2027, so the newest Telluride you can buy is a 2027 while the newest Palisade is a 2026. Comparing them is comparing the current version of each. We explain the skipped year in why there is no 2026 Kia Telluride.

Which one has more cargo space?

The Telluride, behind every row. With all three rows in use it holds 22.3 cu ft against 19.1. Fold the third row and it is 48.7 against 46.3. Fold everything and it is 89.3 against 86.7. Most families notice that first figure, since it is about 17 percent more room in the situation where a full vehicle has the least of it.

Is the Telluride bigger than the Palisade?

Not in any way you would notice from the curb. Both ride a 116.9-inch wheelbase, both measure 199.2 inches long and both sit at 7.4 inches of minimum ground clearance. The Telluride is 78.3 inches wide to the Palisade's 78.0. The differences that matter are inside, where the Telluride holds more cargo behind every row.

Is the Palisade more powerful than the Telluride?

It depends which number you mean. The Palisade's 3.5L V6 makes 287 hp to the Telluride's 274, so Hyundai wins on horsepower by 13. The Telluride's turbocharged 2.5L makes 311 lb-ft of torque to the Palisade's 260, so Kia wins on torque by 51.

Horsepower carries a vehicle as speed builds. Torque moves it away from a stop and up a grade with everybody aboard, which is the situation most three-row buyers meet every day.

Which one gets better fuel economy?

Neither, in any way that would decide a purchase. With all-wheel drive both come in at 18 city, 24 highway and 20 combined. With front-wheel drive the Palisade is rated by the EPA at 19 / 25 / 21, and Kia states 20 / 26 / 22 for the Telluride. The Telluride X-Pro trims are the outlier at 17 / 22 / 19, in exchange for their all-terrain tires and 9.1 inches of ground clearance.

Which one is cheaper?

The Telluride, by $245. Its LX launched at $39,190 against $39,435 for the Palisade SE, both front-wheel drive, both 8-passenger, both excluding the destination charge. The top of the two lines is just as close, $56,790 against $56,560, with the Palisade the cheaper one there. For figures on specific vehicles, browse the Telluride inventory.

Can both tow 5,000 pounds?

Yes, both are rated at 5,000 lb, so the difference is in the equipment, not the capacity. The Palisade ships with its trailering package standard: prewiring, heavy-duty coolers, trailer sway control. A household that tows regularly wants that hardware from day one.

Neither entry trim includes the hitch itself: at launch Kia's Towing Package listed at $625 and Hyundai's Tow Hitch accessory at $765. On both vehicles there are higher trims that arrive with the hitch already fitted.

How do the two compare on crash ratings?

The 2026 Palisade has a full set of NHTSA numbers: 5 stars overall, 4 frontal, 5 side, 4 rollover. The Telluride does not, because the 2027 has not been through the test. That leaves it without a score, which is not the same as a poor one. New tests get published over time, so NHTSA.gov carries the current standing for both.

Which has the better warranty?

They tie on the two terms buyers ask about most: 5 years and 60,000 miles basic, 10 years and 100,000 miles on the powertrain. Hyundai is longer on corrosion, at 7 years and unlimited miles against 5 years and 100,000 miles, and longer on roadside assistance. Kia's powertrain coverage also carries to the next owner when the vehicle is resold through Kia Certified Pre-Owned, so it still has value at resale.

Can I drive both at Mike Kelly Kia?

You can drive the Telluride here in Butler. We are a Kia store, so a new Palisade is not ours to sell. For a new one, visit a Hyundai store. Two vehicles this closely matched are worth driving back to back, and you can schedule a test drive in the Telluride whenever it suits you.
