The bottom of a car

Your engine has a huge number of parts and numerous connected systems. If a component fails due to wear or damage, this will cause engine problems. As your Kia dealer, we can fix any engine problem for you. These are samples of some of the issues we can repair.

Check Engine Light

The check engine light comes on in response to a problem in your engine. This light is connected to your computer, and through the computer, to a vast network of sensors in the engine. Each sensor is attached to a particular component, and the sensor monitors this component for signs of trouble. If a problem is detected, the sensor will inform your computer, and the light will come on.

The warning light doesn’t identify the source of the problem. We find the cause of the problem by connecting your computer to our diagnostic system. Any issue in your car is logged by your computer with an error code. Our diagnostic system will read the error code, which pinpoints the problem. Once the problem is identified, we’ll repair it.

Failing Alternator

The alternator is responsible for producing all the electrical power for your Kia. It converts the mechanical power from the crankshaft into electrical power for your car’s systems and accessories. It’s also responsible for maintaining your battery at full charge. In time, the alternator will age and start to weaken. A weak alternator will create a variety of problems for your car.

The main problem caused by a weakening alternator is reduced electrical supply. A worn-out alternator can’t provide the level of power it once did. As the alternator produces less electricity, your car will develop electrical issues. The headlights will become dimmer, for example, or accessories will malfunction. Our technicians can test your alternator and replace it to fix this problem.

Dirty Air Filter

The air filter prevents dirt and other debris from entering your engine. Combustion requires enormous amounts of clean air, and all this air must pass through the filter. As time passes, the filter gradually fills up with dirt and can become clogged. A clogged air filter will restrict airflow into your engine, and this creates a new set of problems.

A lack of air means your engine will have more fuel than air for combustion. This creates a fuel-rich environment in the engine and makes combustion less efficient. Your engine will use more fuel in this environment, and other engine components, like the spark plugs, can become damaged. When we replace the clogged air filter, these problems will disappear.

Most problems with an engine are easy to fix if they’re noticed and fixed as soon as they appear. Call us at Mike Kelly Kia.
