A black Kia Niro by the coast

The Kia Niro returns in 2023 with a bold and futuristic new design. You can approach any Kia dealer to ask for information and get your hands on this new vehicle, but this guide will teach you about the most exciting features.

This compact crossover SUV is available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or as an electric battery variant. It has always offered good fuel economy and cargo space ever since it was first released by the Korean manufacturer in 2016.

New/Unique Features

The 2023 Niro enjoys a complete aesthetic revamp. The exterior design is based on Kia’s 2019 ‘Habaniro’ concept vehicle. Its futuristic, shark-like grille turned head backs then, and it looks fantastic here.

As well as better fuel economy and cargo space, you can also expect more safety features. These include smart cruise control with machine learning, blind spot monitoring, and forward collision avoidance with lane-keeping assist.

You’ll Get Great Mileage With Any Version of This Vehicle

Kia has upgraded the batteries on the 2023 edition of these vehicles to give the driver better acceleration and longer journeys per charge. You can expect around 588 miles per charge on the hybrid version of the Niro, while the battery can be fully charged in less than three hours. The electric battery variant offers an EPA-estimated 253 miles of all-electric driving, as the EV powertrain delivers 201 horsepower and 113 MPGe.

The plug-in hybrid will grant you 33 all-electric miles. The new engine delivers 180 horsepower, which should get you from 0-60 in a little over seven seconds.

There Are Five Trims to Choose

The Niro comes with a choice of five trims: LX, EX, EX Touring, SX, and SX Touring. You’ll notice significant upgrades to the interior of the Niro in the upper trims. Notable interior features include a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Kia Connect, vegan leather upholstery, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.

The “Green Zone” Drive Mode Automates Your Trip Further

The “green zone” drive mode uses satellite-navigation technology to switch the Niro into EV mode automatically in certain areas. This includes densely-populated neighborhoods, near schools and hospitals, and near the driver’s own home.

The function was added to protect pedestrians and the environment in urban areas defined by the technology as “green zones.” It is available with both hybrid versions of the Niro. It can be switched on and off using the vehicle’s infotainment system.
